Dresden Chamber of Skilled Crafts demonstrates simple robot programming for craftspeople with Wandelbots Teaching

The topic of robotics is also becoming increasingly important in the skilled crafts sector. To promote the adaptation of robotics in skilled trades, the Dresden Chamber of Skilled Crafts has integrated a demonstrator with a collaborative robot (Universal Robot) using Wandelbots Teaching in the foyer of njumii – the education centre for the skilled trades in Dresden.

A welding application is simulated for demonstration purposes. For this purpose, a replica of a welding tool was attached to a robot that simulates a welding process on three different workpieces. With the help of the TracePen developed by Wandelbots, interested visitors can try out simple robot programming for themselves on site. A proximity sensor that automatically runs a robot programme will attract attention once a person moves close to the demo-station.

The main goal of the project is to sensitise craftspeople on the topic of robotics. With Wandelbots Teaching, new and innovative operating concepts can be demonstrated and tested easily. The no-code concept of robot control can overcome initial hurdles and accelerate productive use within companies.

The Dresden Chamber of Skilled Crafts is a self-governing institution organised as a public corporation. In the chamber district of Dresden, which includes the districts of Görlitz, Bautzen, Meißen, Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge and the state capital of Saxony – Dresden, there are currently around 22,300 registered craft enterprises. A total of about 120,000 employees and about 5,600 apprentices work in the East Saxon skilled crafts sector. Qualified training and further education – from specialist courses to master craftsman courses to in-service study courses – takes place in njumii – the education centre for skilled crafts.

The Robotics in the Skilled Crafts Competence Centre was founded in 2019 and deals with the possible applications of robotics in the skilled crafts sector. The Dresden Chamber of Skilled Crafts enables craftspeople to try out new technologies for themselves in the Robotics Test Field. At the same time, innovative technologies are integrated into vocational training and bring more technological knowledge into the craft enterprises in order to strengthen the innovative power, performance and competitiveness in the Saxony region. The Dresden Chamber of Skilled Crafts works closely with research institutions and partners from different technological fields. This is also the case with the Dresden-based start-up Wandelbots.

“We see Wandelbots Teaching as a very interesting development in the field of easy robot programming. We are very excited about the further development and look forward to the exchange with users from practice.”
