Defining the Future of Manufacturing – Wandelbots becomes Associate Partner of The Open Manufacturing Platform

Aug 3, 2020

The Open Manufacturing Platform (OMP) is an alliance founded in 2019 to help manufacturing companies accelerate innovation at scale through cross-industry collaboration, knowledge and data committee sharing as well as access to new technologies. Current OMP steering members include Anheuser-Busch InBev, BMW Group, Bosch Group, Microsoft, and ZF Friedrichshafen AG.

OMP was founded under the umbrella of the Linux Foundation to address the main key industry challenges when it comes to industrial-scale digitalization. The four main challenges include:

  • Data silos slow down production optimization
  • Heterogeneous IT/OT (information technology/operation technology) systems are limiting
  • Risky data ownership threatens intellectual property
  • Long cycles of renewal in the OT world

We’re proud to announce that we recently became an Associate Partner of the Open Manufacturing Platform to address those challenges and contribute to the goals of the OMP by:

  1. Developing practical solutions that enable smarter manufacturing
  2. Collaborating to provide faster time-to-value thereby scaling up ROIs
  3. Driving new efficiencies and reducing the cost of automation

We strongly believe in the power of cooperation and ecosystems. Being a part of the industry’s key players we will bring in our competencies to avoid what Tim Höttges, CEO Deutsche Telekom is fearing: that “We’re losing the second half”.
Together with companies like BMW, Microsoft, Bosch, Capgemini, ABInBev, ZF Friedrichshafen AG, PWC, and Redhat, we will jointly work on solving key industry challenges and push forward our goal of a democratized robotic industry. Using a common data model, an implementation framework and an open platform with the knowledge and experience of this fantastic community will massively speed up industrial-scale digitalization.
As an associate member, we will initiate and lead the robotics pillar within the OMP. No-code robotics might be the name of the very first one – stay tuned!

About Open Manufacturing Platform (OMP):
OMP is a non-profit alliance to help manufacturing companies accelerate innovation at scale through cross-industry collaboration, knowledge and data sharing as well as access to new technologies. The OMP has been founded under the umbrella of the Linux Foundation. The OMP helps businesses unlock the potential of their data and integrate industrial solutions faster and more securely while owning their intellectual property, mitigating operational risks and reducing financial investments by leveraging industry standards, open source reference architectures, common data models, and more.

“Industry-wide collaboration is at the core of OMP and enables manufacturing companies and their partners along the value chain to bring offerings to market faster and scale to create value”
