A short but impactful internship at Wandelbots – Lanny’s Story

Sep 4, 2020

Lanny recently completed his internship with the sales and marketing team at Wandelbots. As one of our youngest interns, he shares his story about his activities at the company and what made the internship so exciting.

Lanny says:

“I recently finished my German Abitur with English and Mathematics as advanced courses. Now, I will start my studies in the Industrial Engineering (Dipl.-Wing) at the TU Dresden for the upcoming winter semester. In addition to being a high school graduate, I am involved in the start-up-project VATSDN, a digital collaboration platform for school projects, as well as project:powermind, a youth founder network. Through these projects, my teammates and I have been able to cooperate with local companies like FutureSAX GmbH and Deutsche Bank AG.

In 2019, I heard about this very interesting automation start-up headquartered in Dresden that won the FutureSAX Founder Award; Wandelbots. I searched for someone from the team via LinkedIn to talk about the company’s innovation and finally, I reached out to Georg for a cup of coffee. We met and had a fascinating conversation about the future of artificial intelligence. Afterwards, I asked him about the possibility of interning at Wandelbots and got the role!

I was at Wandelbots for six weeks in total. Two weeks as an orientation internship at the Wandelbots’ Business Development division and four weeks as a voluntary intern at the Wandelbots’ Sales and Marketing division. Although every day at the company comes with unique activities, this is how my typical day goes: First, I am welcomed by Thomas, the facility manager, with a lovely smile and a comment about my “fancy” sunglasses. Then I meet with Annelie, my internship advisor, for a quick update about my project status and my daily plan. After this, I brew a cup of earl grey with milk and sugar and dive right into my work.

What I like most about Wandelbots is speaking English regularly (it’s great practice since I’m not a native English speaker), being in contact with the international manufacturing industry, and collaborating with interesting pioneers. From free food and drinks to exciting team activities, Wandelbots is heavily focused on offering a good working environment. With the smooth onboarding process for interns, straightforward but friendly communication as well as a large scale of respect and appreciation for my work, Wandelbots ensured that my time at the company was as enjoyable as possible. What makes my role even more significant is the trust offered as I handled projects and the opportunity to not just attend meetings, but to also organize and  hold them.

If you would like to join the Business Development, Marketing or Sales team, you should be able to think strategically, and work in a structured, creative, fast, and goal-oriented manner.”

P.S: When I’m not working, studying or managing my start-up projects, you may find me painting or doing something related to an adrenaline kick (like snowboarding, longboarding, wake skating, climbing, or mountain-biking).
